ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION

This study assessed the factors influencing drug regimen compliance among diabetes patient

Asubiaro State hospital Osogbo in Osun State. The objective of the study was to assess the

factors influencing drug regimen compliance among diabetes patient.

METHODOLOGY

A descriptive design was employed for the study. Convenient sampling technique( one hundred

and twenty samples was used) and a self-administered semi structure questionnaire was used to

gather information from a sample size of 120 respondents in Asubiaro state hospital Osogbo in

Osun state Data generated was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences, Version

20.

FINDINGS

The results were presented using descriptive statistics. The findings shows that all of the

respondents (100%) has knowledge about diabetes mellitus but (70.8%) are complying with the

prescribed drug regimen. Statistically, a significant relationship was found between socio

economic status (P value 0.016)(table 5), and drug regimen compliance of diabetes patients

attending Asubiaro state hospital, osogbo Osun state , and no significant relationship was found

between level of education, occupational status, among the factors responsible for drug regimen

compliance among diabetes patients.

CONCLUSION

Based on the findings of this study, the study concludes that non-compliance with treatment

regimens among diabetic clients admitted in Asubiaro state hospital osogbo is mainly due to

socio economic status, level of education, occupation and side effect of the drugs used. It is

evidenced that non-compliance to treatment regimens among diabetic clients exposes them to

secondary disease and a great threat to their recovery.
