ABSTRACT

Over the last decade, many studies have been carried out on worker participation and organizational performance. Studies have found substantial positive evidence for statistical association between decision making and organisational performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the employee’s participation in decision making and organisational productivity. It was hypothesized that employee participation in decision making has positive influenced on organisational productivity and employee participation in decision making had influenced on increase in the quality of production. Data were collected using questionnaire sent to employees of Guaranty Trust Bank, Headquarter Victoria Island Lagos. A total of 100 usable responses were obtained and used for the purpose of analysis. Results of hierarchical regression used to test the relationships among the variables indicated that (1) employee participation in decision making has a positive relationship with organisational productivity (2) employee participation in decision making has a relationship with increase in the quality of production. The findings can form the basis for useful recommendations for Guaranty Trust Bank that Employees should therefore be allowed to participate in management decision-making, the benefits of such participation include higher output, better quality of work, higher job satisfaction, greater commitment to goals, better acceptance of change, less absence, reduced stress and turnover and greater self-esteem should encourage and initiate a two-way flow of information, so as to ensure a meaningful exchange between management and employees.
