ABSTRACT
The project is on financing women co-operative Groups by Nigeria agricultural cooperative and rural development bank NACRDB with special references to Enugu state. The NACRDB, role in financing women co-operative groups is of significant important to the development and growth of the economy at large. However, certain factors mitigate the effective flow of this finance from the bank to the women cooperative. To find out these factors, a sample was drawn out of the population and 10 women cooperative group is were selected for the study. The simple random sampling technique was used to select the 10 women cooperative groups for the study. The general objective of the study is to examine the role of NACRDB in financing women cooperative groups. During the course of the survey, the following findings were made. That the women cooperative received a total loan of N1,885,000 in five years. That the women cooperatives repaid the sum of N1,784,000 in four (4) years. The loans outstanding were N1,456,000. That women cooperative groups in most cases divert loans to other activities, which are different from that which the loans were meant for, steps to be taken before funds are given to the women cooperative groups this discourage a lot of the women co-operative groups. Mismanagement of the funds that were meant for the women cooperative groups, by the manager of the banks also leads to the poor performance of the banks. The following recommendations were given to solve these problems. Loans given to women co-operatives should be carefully monitored to avoid diversion and loan default. The bank should reduce the interest rates charged on loans for agriculture and other projects of the women co-operative groups.
