ABSTRACT

This research work examined the impact of training on the performance of employees in National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Abuja. The study was limited to primary data obtained through the use of questionnaires from the staff of NHIS. Secondary sources of data were utilized for the study from relevant literatures. His problem of this study hinged on the need for every employee no matter their educational background or level within the company to benefit from training programs, the study x-rayed the types of training programs and how it influences productivity. The findings from reviewed literature showed that training enhances the performance of employees and serves as a source of motivation. The study measured ‘need assessment’ and ‘training programs’ and independent variables and employee performance as dependent variables. The study made use of regression technique as tool of analysis where SPSS 20.0 was used to process the data collected from the staff of NHIS, Abuja The researcher found that that training has significant effect on employee performance. The result of the study also revealed that there is no particular training approach that is best or most appropriate for all training needs. Therefore, the training need adopted will depend on a particular skill that the employees are required to acquire. The study in conclusion recommended that employees be given the responsibility of making decisions regarding their training so as to provide them with opportunities to improve their foundational skills that would enable them to cope with more complex situations on a continuous basis.
