CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1    BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY:
Secretary refers to a person who performs routines, administrative, or personal takes for a superior. Those in secretary occupation perform duties such s typing, computer processions, and scheduling for an executive. Secretaries are after hardworking, important members of a business its administrative working better than anyone else. Since the renaissance until the late 19th Century, men had assumed the little of secretary in the 1880, with the invention of the typewriters; more women began to enter the filed since war 1. However, the role of secretary has been primarily associated with woman. By the 1980s, fewer me are entering the secretarial occupation.
In an effort to promote professionalism amongst secretaries, the National Secretaries Association was created in 1942. As technology continues to expand office across the profession was greatly evaded office automation and organization structure had led secretaries to assume a wider range of responsibilities. One researcher for many secretaries now provide training or orientation of new job in order out new jobs they conduct research on the interest and troubleshot new office technologies. In the midst of those, however, their responsibilities have remained much the same in their old job until a tine they make a shift.
Secretaries are responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical duties necessary to run an organization and maintain proper work ethic. Precisely Secretarial duties range of filling, managing, project, conducting researching and providing information on the telephone, postal and e-mail. They also may prepare correspondence and handle travel arrangement. Despite the number of graduate secretaries being turned by our numerous tertiary institutions, the labour market is still lacking qualified and competent secretaries to perform secretarial duties, this is majority because these graduate secretaries prefer to work as mangers, salesmen and women and marketers instead of secretaries. The question is why do those secretaries who are well trained in the profession prefer to work as other staff instead of as secretaries. Presently, it has not been known if lack of proper remuneration is the problem to see in first Bank Plc Enugu.
