ABSTRACT

The aim of this research is to examine The Effects of Social Media on Students’ Performance. Social media is rapidly changing the communication setting of today’s social world. Hence its emergence is significantly having effect on the performance of students and as such has become prone to frequent fluctuations on the mood and self-control of students. Thus, this has affected the performance of the students in one way or the other. However, questionnaire was used for the research method in this work for the collection of data, using the survey and quantitative analysis. Out of one hundred (100) copies of questionnaires distributed, eighty three (83) were retrieved which represented the respondents. The study made use of social information processing theory and social media equation theory in carrying out the research work for a better understanding on the topic. However, findings for the study showed that social media good results, improve academic performance, therefore, it should be used for E-learning in schools/colleges. Also, findings revealed that the social media has effect on some of the respondents positively and negatively. To this end, it is recommended that students should use the social media rightly and also the government should create policies on the positivity of social media on student’s performance.
