ABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of drug abuse on the academic performance of students. The specific objectives of the study were to investigate the effects of drug abuse on student discipline, to explore the common drugs abused by secondary students; and to investigate if students who use drugs attend school regularly. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires and interview guides for students, and teachers of the schools involved in the study. In chapter four, the findings were presented and interpreted in relation to the study objectives and research questions. While linking to the existing literature, results included demographic characteristics, frequency, and percentages. Based on the findings it was observed that drugs affect the discipline and education of students negatively. In chapter five, the development of solutions to the problem, a summary of the findings, and conclusions were attempted. The findings suggested recommendations that community and parents are important in a child's life. They should therefore be sensitized and encouraged to participate in all programs that aim to solve the problem of drugs. The government should also include them in all the plans they make concerning the fight against drug abuse
