ABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to determine the Effects of Domestic Violence on Academic Performance of Learners in Esageri Division Koibatek District, Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were to; identify the most common forms of domestic violence In Esageri Division Koibatek District, Kenya, Examine the causes of domestic violence In Esageri Division Koibatek District, Kenya and investigate how domestic violence affects children's academic performance In Esageri Division Koibatek District, Kenya. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the pupils and interviews with the teachers. The findings revealed by 56% of the respondents that beating was the most common form of domestic violence followed by abusing and starvation which was mentioned by 53%, threats with an object was mentioned by 52%, choking by 44%, economic deprivation by 39% sexual abuse by 38% and female genital mutilation by 36%. It was revealed by 50%) of the respondents that poverty causes domestic violence and 44% of the respondents mentioned drug abuse. 44% of the respondimts agreed that domestic violence leads to poor performance, 39% mentioned that domestic violence leads to suspensions and 46% of the respondents agreed that domestic violence leads to drop out. The study recommended that; more strong laws against the perpetrators of domestic violence should be made. The available laws against domestic violence are not strong enough. Counseling services should be availed in schools to help children from such schools and hence manage how to deal and cope with the situation. Children from such families suffer emotionally and therefore need to be helped. The community should be and educated on the effects of domestic violence and the rights of a woman also emphasized. The community has the mentality that women are inferior to men and hence such attitudes need to be changed.
