ABSTRACT

This research investigated the relationship between teaching methods and pupil’s academic performance in public primary schools in Oshimili South Local Government Area Asaba, Delta state. Four research questions guided the study. This study employed descriptive survey research. The population of the study was 371 primary school teachers, while the sample size of 120 teachers was used for the study. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data collected was analyzed using mean and frequencies statistical method. Finding of this work show that teachers’ teaching methods seem to be significant factors for the satisfaction of the pupils on their academic performances. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that the head of schools in conjunction with Ministry of Education and Vocational training should regularly conduct training/ workshops on teaching methods in both science and art subjects. The head of schools should show up on regular basis, find out from pupils on which methods is helping them to understand and their request for the relevant teachers to apply the methods.
