ABSTRACT

The study of the impact of universal banking is one f the critical for banks Nigeria to attain greater light.  This boarders most no the effect of the new concept in Nigeria banking system that tends to remove the functional barriers between commercial and merchant banks, and consequently empowers the bank to under take part from their conventional banking business capital market operations and insurance services. The researcher made use of both primary and secondary data, source from published and unpublished works.  Data were collected from interview from banks the chi-square statistical tools was used in analysis from test analysed, if was established that universal banking plays a revent role in the performance of Nigeria banking industry, as a way of improving Nigeria financial system. The paper recommend that universal banking ensure that Nigeria banks are adequately capothliged, that huge and reliable investment in information technology is paramount for the success of universal banking.
